Opolis: The Employment Commons

As past freelancers ourselves, we’re intimately familiar with the stress of finding new clients, delivering great work, managing schedules, collecting payments, tracking taxes…the whole experience can be overwhelming. On top of that, you’re required to pay a premium for health insurance. This simply isn’t fair. Fortunately we’ve discovered a solution, and we’re very excited to share it with you.

What is Opolis?

Opolis is a next-generation employment cooperative offering payroll, employment benefits, and membership perks. The “Employment Commons” is a Limited Cooperative Association registered in the State of Colorado. Its purpose is to provide Benefits, Payroll and Shared Services for independent workers. Opolis, Inc. is the elected “Trustee” which provides services (administrative, marketing, technology) to the Commons and its Members.

Who is this for?

Anyone who works in the United States and self-identifies as a freelancer, solopreneur, sole-practitioner, gig worker, independent contractor and the like. They have Members who are real estate agents, psychologists, software developers, designers, clergy, teachers, consultants, and more. Opolis is neutral to the work you do.

How does Opolis make money?

There is a 1% Community Fee which Members pay that is calculated by the total consumption of your services. This number will also match the number provided to you on your periodic billing statement from Opolis. There are no subscription fees or other hidden fees to worry about.

What is OpenGrants’ relationship with Opolis?

We have no official or legal relationship. OpenGrants does receive a small amount of the Opolis $WORK token when people we refer sign up, but the dollar amount is negligible and doesn’t have an impact on our business. We discovered Opolis through our own professional network. We had a call with their leadership, we like them as people, and we believe in the work they’re doing. We also believe in the future of these cooperative organizations.

How do I get started?

In their words: “Our commitment to members runs deep, so we take the time upfront to ensure Opolis is right for you. No high-pressure sales, we promise. Just an open conversation and a chance to get your questions answered.” Book an intro call here and tell them you were referred by OpenGrants.
